Lane Castle was one of 250 entrants in this year’s Little Britain Challenge Cup, the three day sailing regatta for the construction industry which raises much-needed monies for sailing charities.

We invited our suppliers and consultants to join a largely novice team, which ranged in experience from complete land-lubbers to salty sea dogs. Over three days of racing on the Solent even the crew’s beginners got to grips with the impressive 40ft Dubois-designed all out racing yacht Audacious and despite the varied levels of experience, Team Lane Castle came a respectable 11th overall, out of 17 entries in its class. The undoubted high point of the event for the crew was snatching 3rd place in the regatta’s prestigious Race 5 on Saturday afternoon.

Charities that benefit from the monies raised from the event include the Ellen MacArthur Trust, the Paralympic Sailing Team, the Jubilee Sailing Trust and the Cirdan Sailing Trust.

Lane Castle Founder and helmsman William Avery, whose lifelong sailing experience proved invaluable to the greener crew members, said: “Little Britain is a great fundraiser for charities that give people of all ages, circumstances and physical abilities the opportunity to enjoy the challenge and excitement of life at sea.”

Fellow Founder Mark O’Grady said: “Our participation this year was also a great way of recognising the valuable support we get from our consultants, suppliers and partners by inviting them to join the crew for three fantastic days sailing.”
