About Lane Castle

Lane Castle is a residential, mixed-use developer, which creates new urban schemes that fully integrate with the local community. The company was set up in 2006 with the intention of making a significant contribution to local residents through their urban renewal projects, an ethos which sets them apart from other residential developers. Paynes and Borthwick Wharves, where the developer intends to work closely with the community to create a sense of 'place' and a cultural hub for local residents, is illustrative of their vision.

The company was founded by William Avery and Mark O'Grady who between them bring 40 years of experience in property development to the business. It is their hands-on approach, energy and social consciences which define and drive the nature and outlook of Lane Castle.

Lane Castle acquired its first development site, Paynes and Borthwick Wharves, shortly after its conception in early 2006 and was granted planning permission in December 2006. The scheme totals some 32,500 sq m (350,000 sq ft) which includes listed sections of Paynes Wharf with its dramatic Italienette arches, where the north, south and west exterior walls will be retained and incorporated into the new design. Within this, 247 residential units will be created, together with 10 live/work units. In addition, around 3,500 sq m (38,000 sq ft) of new commercial space at the lower levels, incorporating restaurant/café space, a magnificent gallery/cultural venue, and office/design studios.

Lane Castle is also involved in the hotel industry, working closely with an established hotel company. Currently 2 new hotel brands are being developed in the Midlands; one for Hilton Hotels and the other for Intercontinental Hotels Group. Both hotels are due to open in 2009.
